Scientists have proposed the idea of space solar power generation. From technology speaking,there are mainly three technical links in space solar power plant technology, namely energy collection, energy conversion and transmission, and energy reception and utilization. Energy harvesting is mainly accomplished by spacecraft, such as orbiting satellites or space stations. In addition to photovoltaic power generation, the means of energy collection, there is also a technical route that directly converts solar energy into laser energy. There are also many technical routes for energy conversion and transmission. At present, the most discussed methods are microwave and laser transmission. In comparison, microwave conversion and transmission efficiency is high, and the penetration of specific frequency bands is good; its beam is wider, and the size of the transmitting and receiving antennas is large, which is suitable for high-power space-to-earth energy transmission mode.
At present, space solar power generation technology still faces many challenges. But it is also an exciting research topic and development opportunity, and the technology will play an important role in the achievement of the "two-carbon" goal in the future.
